Granada Matadors Lose State Championship To Notre Dame
The team fell one game short of the ultimate prize Friday in Sacramento.
LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore fans had a tough night Friday after the Granada High School boys basketball team lost the Division I state championship to Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks 67-58 in Sacramento.
Caleb Foster, a Notre Dame senior, scored 33 points, and broke the D1 scoring record of 32 points that was last broken in 1981, according to a report in the Bay Area News Group.
The Matadors started the game off strong in the first quarter, trailing only 18-14. Notre Dame led Granada 39-27 at halftime, but the Matadors got the lead down to 48-40 going into the fourth quarter. Seven-foot senior Andrew McKeever scored the first four points, while senior Tyler Harris scored seventeen. In the fourth quarter, Granada senior Matai Faiapau’u launched a three-quarter shot that went in at the buzzer.

Even if the team didn’t ultimately win, the Matadors won 26-11 and were the strongest team in the East Bay Athletic League. They made it to the championships last week after beating Salesian College Preparatory 60-47 at Contra Costa College.
