Las Positas College Students Shine at Journalism Convention

students won 24 awards at a recent journalism convention in Sacramento.

Student and Tracy resident Julian Lim brought home eight awards plus the coveted General Excellence award for both the campus' newspaper and magazine.

Lim is the editor in chief of Las Positas College's “Express” newspaper and “Naked” magazine.

“This is the first time in the LPC Mass Communications program’s history that both the newspaper and the magazine have earned the General Excellence award from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges,” Melissa Korber, Mass Communications faculty and publications adviser, said in a statement.

This year, 47 schools and approximately 567 delegates participated in the statewide convention, Korber said.

Las Positas College students gain practical journalism experience through the student magazine “Naked,” student newspaper “Express,” and Radio Las Positas, officials said.

The publications and radio station support the award-winning Mass Communications program which offers an Associate in Arts Degree, a Certificate of Achievement, a Certificate of Completion in Radio, and transfer classes to four-year
colleges.
