Livermore Catalytic Converter Etching Event Happening Wednesday

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Police Department is again teaming up with Las Positas College to host a free catalytic converter etching event Wednesday, Nov. 13 starting at 8 a.m.

Theft of valuable catalytic converters is a common problem throughout California, and inscribing them with license plate numbers and a Livermore Police Department identifier is meant to deter theft and make them easier to track down if they’re stolen. Replacing a stolen converter may cost up to $2500, according to Farmers Insurance.

The event will take place Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Las Positas College Automotive Department on Loop Road, behind Building 3500. The free event is first come, first served, and no appointments are available. The last vehicle in line at 3 p.m. will be the last to be serviced. Waits may take up to an hour. The event is open to anyone, regardless of residency.
