Livermore Costco Evacuated Due to Gas Leak

Shoppers and employees at the business on Independence Drive were evacuated late Wednesday afternoon.

6 p.m. update — Information provided by Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Neiman-Kimel:

At 4:32 p.m. four engines, two trucks and a battalion chief were called to Costco for a freon leak. On arrival all patrons and employees were evacuated from the building. On investigation it was found that one of the freezer compressors had a broken gasket and was leaking freon gas. The leak was contained and the building was cleared of any residual gas. One employee did not feel well and was checked out by on scene paramedics. No other injuries noted. Costco is working to correct the problem and should be back to regular operation soon.
