"It is with great sadness that I write to formally announce my resignation as Executive Director of Livermore Downtown Inc., effective February 28, 2025. "For the past three years, I have had the honor of serving as Executive Director. Livermore Downtown Inc. is more than just a local nonprofit to me; it is truly a part of who I am," she said in her statement.
"I accepted this position because I wanted to serve families who are just like mine: families who understand the challenges and joys of running a business. I have always been passionate about offering a hand, an ear, and myself to businesses that hold so much weight and responsibility in our community. These businesses are not only the livelihood of their owners, but also of the families who rely on them. Their impact on our community is profound, and their support should be equally immense. The small business families are not just economic engines but vital community anchors, and supporting them has been a profound honor. Though I am stepping away from my formal role, my commitment to this mission remains steadfast. I will always be an advocate for small businesses and the incredible work that LDI does to sustain and uplift them."

During her time as executive director, Lopez-Villareal brought in nearly $400,000 in grant funding; increased revenue for events like Street Fest, Witches Night Out, and the Holiday Village; increased free education and training resources for small business; and much more, according to to her statement.
Lopez-Villareal told The Livermore Vine that much as she loved the job, she left due to the compensation and lack of medical benefits, among other reasons.
"I love what I do and I did not want to leave – I’m sad to leave. As much as I love working here, I also just needed to ensure my next role aligned with being able to support and sustain my family,” she told The Vine. “It’s a sad reality that some local nonprofit leaders and organizations face.”
"Ruby has been an integral part of our organization and we celebrate her work and contribution to our wonderful Downtown Livermore community," the Board of Directors said in a statement. "Ruby’s passion and leadership led us out of the pandemic and put us on a path back to a thriving and vibrant organization. We will be forever grateful. We wish her the best as she pursues new opportunities and look forward to cheering her future successes."
Lopez-Villareal said she will help the board choose her successor. The job description is listed here.
