LIVERMORE, CA — Two accomplished guitarists are performing at the Bothwell Arts Center at the “Frets and Friends” fundraiser to benefit the Livermore Rotary Music Scholarship Fund to benefit local music students.

Richard Smith has been a star performer ever since he played Her Majesty’s Theater in London at age 11. He won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in 2001, and was named Thumbpicker of the Year by the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame in 2008 and 2021.

Teja Gerken is inspired by guitarists like John Renbourn, Michael Hedges, and Leo Kottke. In 2020, he released an album called “Duets” with fellow Bay Area guitarist Doug Young. He plans to release another album called “Test of Time” in January.

The Livermore Rotary Music Scholarship Fund was founded by Michael Ferucci, a Rotary member and owner of Fine Fretted Friends, a music store in downtown Livermore.

“There are many academic and sports scholarships,” noted Ferrucci, “but very few specifically
for students wanting to pursue a career in music. That’s why I encourage everyone to join us at Frets and Friends,’” Ferucci said in a statement. “Your attendance will help local music students’ dreams come true.”
