LIVERMORE, CA — The eyes of the world are again on Livermore as it hosts the Intermediate 50/70 Baseball World Series. Teams from across the world began tournaments on Saturday, and will play until Sunday, Aug. 6.

The series is an international tournament for Little League players aged 11 to 13, and is named 50/70 because the pitching mound is 50 feet from home plate, and base paths are 70 feet apart, unlike the smaller Little Field dimensions of 46/60. Regional champions are divided into two pools: U.S. teams and international teams. Eventually the top teams from each pool face one another.

Last summer, the Danville Little League won the entire series 5-2 against the team from Seoul, South Korea. After their victory, the team was invited to watch the Oakland A’s at batting practice, and stand with players to sing the national anthem at a game. The team members' names were displayed on the Jumbotron, and they were announced on the PA. The boys also got to run onto the outfield with A's players, according to Coach Dan Lynch.
