In addition to the child pornography charges, Smith was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

A probation check at Smith's home in February discovered child pornography in his laptop computer. Investigators then obtained a warrant to search the computer and found images of child pornography in the computer's hard drive, Stoddard said.

The probation search also found a stolen desktop computer, which has been returned to the owner. No child pornography was found in the stolen computer, Stoddard said.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Smith on Monday evening for possession of child pornography and stolen property charges.

Court records show Smith previously was arrested in June 2010 and February 2008 on drug charges.

Smith, a contractor, is being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. His bail is set at $70,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Department 701 of the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton.
