Livermore Parks GM Honored with Outstanding Professional Award

The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District announced that General Manager Tim Barry earned the 2017 Outstanding Professional Award.

From Livermore Area Recreation and Park District: The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District is proud to announce General Manager Tim Barry earned the 2017 Outstanding Professional Award by the California Association of Parks and Recreation Commissioners and Board Members.

The Awards Committee expressed appreciation for Barry's years of dedication to parks and recreation not only to the Livermore area, but also to agencies throughout the state. The award was given to him at the Association's annual Award and Installation Banquet on March 2 in Sacramento. A presentation was also made by a representative from Assemblywoman Catharine Baker's office, District Director Cindy Chin, at the March 8 LARPD Board of Directors meeting.

Having been General Manager of LARPD for nearly 14 years, Barry has been working in the parks and recreation profession for about 44 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in recreation administration and a master's degree in public administration, both from California State University, Long Beach, near where he grew up. Prior to coming to Livermore, Barry worked his way up in various city park and recreation departments throughout his career, including Buena Park, Anaheim, Seaside, Woodland and Rohnert Park as a supervisor, manager, superintendent and department director.

At LARPD, Barry has been responsible for the successful completion of the 71,000-square-foot Robert Livermore Community Center, synthetic turf field installations, various park improvements and new trails. He also oversees maintenance and operation of more than 40 parks, including Sycamore Grove Park, Brushy Peak Regional Preserve and Robertson Park; as well as a diverse recreation program for all ages, including the state-licensed Extended Student Services child-care program at all elementary school sites.

He holds a Certified Park and Recreation Executive certificate from the National Parks and Recreation Association. He also holds a Special District Leadership Certification and has been actively involved in the California Park and Recreation Society, where he served as state Vice-President, President-Elect and 2016 President. He is Past-President of the Alameda County Chapter of the California Special Districts Association. He currently serves on the state board of the California Association for Park and Recreation Indemnity, a statewide JPA for risk management and insurance for recreation and park districts throughout the state. He has also been a member of a number of volunteer service organizations, including Lions Club, Jaycees, United Way and Rotary Club.
