LIVERMORE, CA — Forget Canada - Livermore's the new spot to see mounties. The Livermore Police Department is starting a new Mounted Patrol Unit of horse-riding officers.

The new unit is an enhanced presence able to reach certain areas that are harder to reach by traditional patrol units, like fields and mountains and remote trails, which will help during search and rescue operations.

The MPU is also geared toward builder stronger community connections, and mounted officers will be present at public gatherings and parades.
