Livermore Police Ramping Up Patrols Beginning Wednesday
Notice more officers hitting the streets? The Livermore Police Department is set to begin stepping up traffic enforcement efforts.
LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Police Department will have extra officers on the streets beginning Wednesday.
Police are getting an early start on increasing patrols ahead of Labor Day and remind drivers to avoid distractions, wear seatbelts, follow the speed limit and drive sober. The enforcement period will end Sept. 6.
Forty-five people died in California car crashes during the 2019 Labor Day holiday, police said in a statement. The California Highway Patrol arrested more than 1,000 people on suspicion of driving under the influence that weekend.

“Driving impaired is risky and puts yourself and others around you in serious danger,” said Livermore Police Department Sgt. Justin Lash in a statement. “If you are taking a road trip over the next few weeks, make good choices and drive like your closest friends and family are in the cars around you.”
Police remind drivers to call 911 if they spot an impaired driver and refrain from cannabis and over-the-counter medications that can inhibit the ability to safely drive.

The enforcement period is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
