Maria Bamford To Play At The Bankhead

The darkly funny, award-winning comic that Stephen Colbert called his "favorite comedian on earth" is headed to Livermore.

LIVERMORE, CA — Maria Bamford, the famous comedian known for deeply personal and experimental comedy about mental illness, is performing at the Bankhead on Aug. 5.

Bamford has starred in three hour-long standup specials, and was the first female comedian to have two half-hour Comedy Central Specials. In 2014, Bamford won the American Comedy Award for Best Club Comic. Stephen Colbert has called her his “favorite comedian on earth,” while Judd Apatow called her “the funniest woman in the world.”

She has also starred in a number of movies and TV shows, including “Stuart Little 2”, “Charlotte’s Web 2,” “American Dad,””Bob’s Burgers,” “BoJack Horseman,” “Louie,” “Arrested Development,” “Big Mouth,” and more. From 2016-18, she starred as herself as the leading role on Netflix’s “Lady Dynamite,” a semi-autobiographical series about a comic and actor trying to rebuild her life after spending six months in recovery after suffering a nervous breakdown.
