LIVERMORE, CA — Metalheads and whiskey taters get excited: Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist of Metallica, and Robert Trujillo, the bassist, are coming to Costco in Livermore Saturday to promote “Blackened,” their brand of whisky.
The bandmates are signing bottles of their award-winning whisky on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Costco at 2800 Independence Drive in Livermore.
“Blackened Whiskey,” was founded by the famed metal band and named after a famous 1988 song. “Blackened Whiskey is born from Metallica’s spirit of innovation, steeped in science, and honed by seasoned experts,” the brand says on its website.

“Blackened” is unusual for its use of “sonic enhancement” during production, a patented process that produces low-frequency sound waves that cause the whiskey to reverberate quickly, interact with the oak staves of the barrel, and enhance the flavor.
It has won numerous awards, and is widely available at nearby liquor stores.
