Mosquito Treatment Planned Near Max Baer Park
A third treatment will be applied to two areas of southwest Livermore Thursday night, the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District said.

LIVERMORE, CA — The Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District plans to treat another area of Livermore for adult mosquitos Thursday night, the third time it has done so this month.
A truck-mounted ultra-low volume sprayer will treat Jack Williams Park and the neighborhood surrounding Max Baer Park late Thursday evening with Evergreen ULV (5-25), the district said in a news release. The exact time will be determined by weather conditions.
The truck will spray two areas: the area north of Concannon Boulevard, and south of Diamond Boulevard and El Caminito; near 580, and the undeveloped area north of Constitution Drive, south of North Canyons Parkway, and west of Collier Canyon Road. The latter area will be treated with a handheld device.

Residents of the first area are advised to stay indoors and close all windows during spraying hours. Insecticides will begin to break down by sunrise, the district said.
The treatment comes in response to confirmed reports of West Nile-positive dead birds and groups of West Nile-positive mosquitos in the treatment area.

West Nile viruses are higher this year due to the winter’s heavy rain, and scattered showers throughout the spring and summer. As of Sept. 8, California has seen 502 dead birds, 3,455 mosquito samples, 131 sentinel chickens, and 98 humans test positive for West Nile virus, according to the district. Five people in California have died from the disease.
Residents are urged to eliminate sources of water where mosquitos can breed, like plants, outdoor containers, and unmaintained swimming pools. Residents are also advised to wear long, loose clothing, repair broken window screens, and wear insect repellent. Anyone who sees a dead bird is asked to call 877-WNV-BIRD or online at westnile.ca.gov.
