UPDATE: Motorcyclist Dead After Crashing Into Tree
25-year-old Hayward resident was seen traveling at high rate of speed prior to solo collision on National Drive near Longfellow Court.

A 25-year-old Hayward man succumbed to critical injuries he suffered after crashing into a tree on Saturday, police said.
Freddy Escobar was pronounced dead at Eden Trauma Center in Castro Valley after extensive efforts to save his life, Livermore Police Sgt. John Hurd said.
At 12:39 p.m. police responded to a single-vehicle collision on National Drive near Longfellow Court. The site of the collision is a commercial industrial area with relatively light traffic, police said.

"The debris field was fairly extensive," Hurd said. "He was ejected and was found a good distance from the motorcycle."
Escobar was airlifted to Eden Medical Center.

Witnesses told police Escobar, who was riding a Yamaha sportbike, was traveling in excess of 80 mph just prior to the crash.
National Drive is a posted 40 mph roadway, police said.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and is not currently licensed to ride a motorcycle, police said.
An investigation is ongoing, and witnesses are asked to contact the Traffic Unit at 925-371-4850.
