Motorcyclist Killed By Truck On I-580, 2 Vehicles Flee The Scene: CHP
Authorities are searching for two drivers who fled after they were involved in a crash that killed a 60-year-old motorcyclist on I-580.
TRACY, CA — A motorcyclist died in a fatal car accident on I-580 Wednesday night that killed a 60-year-old man from Tracy, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities are searching for cars involved in the crash that sped off after the incident.
At around 7:42 p.m. Wednesday on eastbound I-580, CHP received reports of a crash between a semi-truck and a motorcyclist near Grant Line Road in Tracy, according to a news release. The rider was seen lying in the lanes of the road with major injuries, according to CHP.
Initial reports said that a gold SUV, possibly an older model Lexus, was erratically weaving through traffic prior to the crash. The SUV continued weaving until it veered from one lane into another, side swiping a motorcyclist in between the two lanes. The motorcycle rider was ejected underneath a passing truck in another lane, leading to fatal injuries.
Both the truck and the gold SUV briefly stopped on the shoulder before fleeing the scene, according to CHP.
The semi-truck was described as hauling a white shipping container with red lettering on a flat bed.
