Man Killed On I-580 In Livermore After Possibly Running Out of Gas: CHP

BREAKING: Officials say the Stockton man got out of his car for an unknown reason and was hit by a big rig.

LIVERMORE, CA — A Stockton man was killed when he got out of his car after possibly running out of gas on Interstate Highway 580 just east of Livermore on Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol. The 53-year-old man was headed east on Highway 580 when his car became disabled just east of Greenville Road at 11:54 p.m., CHP Officer Derek Reed said.

He got out of his car for an unknown reason and was hit by a big rig driven by a 58-year-old Florida man. The impact knocked him three lanes to the left, where he was also hit by a Honda Civic driven by a 24-year-old Concord woman, Reed said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither the big rig driver nor the Honda driver were injured.

There were no arrests, and alcohol or drugs are not suspected factors in the crash. The name of the man killed has not been released pending notification of his family.
