Serial Burglar Accused Of Stealing Credits Cards From Livermore Schools Arrested

Fremont police helped arrest Christopher Britton, a man accused of stealing credit cards from schools in Livermore and around the Bay Area.

LIVERMORE, CA — A man accused of stealing credit cards and other personal items from Livermore classrooms was arrested in Walnut Creek, the Fremont Police Department reported.

In October, the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District warned families that a man had trespassed onto three school campuses and stole personal belongings and credit cards. Similar occurrences happened at schools in Fremont and Hillsborough.

Following reports of missing items at multiple schools across Fremont, the Fremont Police Department identified the suspect as Christopher Britton, a resident of Fairfield. Britton, 34, was arrested in Lafayette in April on multiple charges, including stealing credit cards from schools in Lafayette. Britton was wanted by multiple law enforcements agencies in Solano, Contra Costa, Marin, Alameda, and Yolo counties for similar thefts, according to Fremont police.

On Monday, while conducting a follow-up activity in Walnut Creek, a Fremont school resource officer saw Britton returning a rental car believed to have been used during one of the burglaries. Working with the Walnut Creek Police Department, officers arrested Britton as he attempted to flee the area.

“Our educators come to work each day to teach and support our children—they should never have to worry about being targeted by criminals,” Fremont Police SRO Sergeant Richard Hamblin said in a statement. “The dedication of our SROs and their collaboration with neighboring agencies made this arrest possible, helping ensure the safety of our schools and staff.”

“School safety remains one of our top priorities,” the Livermore Police Department said in a statement. “We appreciate the swift action and collaboration of our law enforcement partners, including the Fremont Police Department and Walnut Creek Police Department, for apprehending the suspect.”
