Power Restored to 8,700 Customers in Livermore, Castro Valley and Hayward After Underground Failure

The massive outage was first reported at 10:28 p.m.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA —Power has been restored to over 8,700 customers in Castro Valley, Hayward and Livermore after an outage late Wednesday night, PG&E officials said.

According to spokesman J.D. Guidi, the outage was first reported at 10:28 p.m. Around midnight those affected by the outage had been reduced to around 2,000 and at 12:45 a.m. power was restored to all customers.

Guidi confirmed the cause of the outage was due to an underground equipment failure near the Castro Valley substation. Alameda County Fire officials reported on Twitter the failure may have been due to an explosion near Center Street and Grove Way in Castro Valley.
