LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District has warned families that an individual trespassed onto three of their school campuses and stole personal belongings and credit cards. The trespassing and thefts took place Wednesday, Oct. 22, according to LVJUSD spokesperson Michelle Dawson.

According to an email sent by Superintendent Torie Gibson, the thefts were noticed once multiple staff members noticed fraudulent activity on their cards. Gibson said the suspect reportedly appears “friendly and approachable” and often enters during busy times like dismissal or after-hours to take advantage of easily accessible entry points. He pretends to be on the phone, looking for a classroom, or picking up a student, and is typically dressed in dark clothing.

The district included security footage of a suspect who is confirmed to have appeared at four LVJUSD school sites, Dawson told Patch. According to Gibson, the man has trespassed onto other Bay Area campuses, though did not say which ones. Patch has reached out to school districts in Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, and Danville to see if they have had similar incidents. Representatives from the Dublin and Pleasanton school districts told Patch they were not aware of any similar occurrences in their districts.

In April, Lafayette police arrested 34-year-old Christopher Britton of Fairfield on multiple changes, including stealing credit cards from schools in Lafayette. Though images of Britton look similar to the footage provided by LVJUSD, it is unconfirmed whether it is him.

Gibson advised families to enter campus only through the main office, prominently display their visitor badges, and do not allow others to tailgate and enter through doors not designated for public entry. Staff are advised to wear district-issued identification at all times, lock their classrooms at all times, and approach anyone not wearing an approved badge. Gibson also said that additional security measures will be implemented on Halloween.
