Westbound I-580 to Close Early Thursday and Friday

Caltrans will close down a portion of westbound Interstate 580 beginning early Thursday morning.

The freeway closure is from North Livermore Avenue to Airway Boulevard. It's scheduled for 12:01 to 3 a.m. It will resume at the same time Friday.

Officials said the closure is needed to build a temporary structure, or falsework, that will support components of a bridge during the (Isabel Avenue) interchange project.

Motorists traveling westbound on I-580 will take a detour off the N. Livermore Avenue exit. From there motorists will continue on local streets along Portola Avenue, East Airway Boulevard and then back onto westbound I-580.

Once the falsework is completed for westbound I-580, there will be additional closures to complete falsework for eastbound I-580, Caltrans said.

The work for eastbound I-580 is scheduled for the week of Nov. 28, from 1 to 4 a.m. During this work, eastbound I-580 will be closed at Airway Boulevard.
