Which Road in Livermore Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

LIVERMORE, CA - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Livermore. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

  • "Speed bumps don't seem to do a whole lot for the streets that have them already..."
  • "Rincon! A few of them!"
  • "N P St between Pine & Olivina. Sounds like a racetrack at night. Also, over the past few months I've seen several cars blow through the stop sign at N N St, heading north at the Pine St. intersection. Maybe adding speed bumps approaching that stop sign will help since idiots apparently don't see the lighted stop signs."
  • "E. Jack London in front of Rancho School."
  • "Wall Street!"
  • "None. Speed bumps only serve to make drivers angry. They slow down a bit for the bump but race between them. It adds noise from people revving their engines to accelerate and makes driving significantly less efficient."
  • "Murrieta-between Holmes and Stanley."
  • "Paseo Leguna Seco, go park on that street for a good period of time and see all the people driving like crazy and you will understand why they are needed. They speed like race cars and It's a huge hazard."
  • "Catalina!"
  • "Heather Lane - everyone uses it as a speed way to cut through to Vasco. It's terrifying has fast people drive down this street!"
  • "Pestana. It's a real race track."
  • "Jack London in front of Rancho!"
  • "Patterson Pass. People are constantly speeding and swerving in and out to pass those actually following the speed limit. I almost got rear ended today because of two people trying to race each other."
  • "Adelle St. Its a big street and all the time there are people speeding. There are young kids outside playing sometimes and it's not safe. Also, they make circles or donuts with their cars."
