LONG BEACH, CA — One person is dead and three others were injured in a crash near Cal State Long Beach, according to authorities.

Police say a box truck collided with another car in the area of Pepper Treet Lane and East Seventh Street around 11:44 a.m.

The impact of the crash sent the box truck careening into a wall, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Photos of the crash show the box truck on its side after crashing into the wall.

One person died at the scene while two people were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said. (Long Beach Fire Department)

Two passengers inside the the box truck were critically injured and were taken to a local hospital, while another died at the scene, police said. The driver fo the other car was also taken to a local hospital, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

The Long Beach Fire Department said in a statement Wednesday evening that they used the Jaws of Life to rescue two of the people inside the box truck.
