2nd Suspect Arrested In Deadly Beating Of Homeless Man In Long Beach: Police

The victim died several weeks after being beaten in a Long Beach parking lot by two men, according to authorities.

LONG BEACH, CA — Police say they've arrested a second suspect in connection with the deadly beating of a homeless man in Long Beach earlier this year.

Brandon Brewington, a 36-year-old resident of Long Beach, is accused of taking part in the assault that left Chamrong Sok, 52, dead back in April.

Brewington and another man, Thongsay Ky, 58, beat Sok in a parking lot in the area of Anaheim Street on March 11, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Sok, who had upper-body injuries, was taken by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital, where he refused to tell officers details about the assault.

The 52-year-old died at the hospital from his injuries on April 24, police said.

Detectives later were able to identify Ky as one of the men involved in the assault, and he was taken into custody on suspicion of murder in July, police said.

Brewington was already in custody on an unrelated charge when detectives tied him this month to Sok's death, police said.

The motive in the case remains under investigation, according to police. Detectives have presented the case against Brewington to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for filing consideration, police said.
