Gym That Takes Time For Customers Picked As Best Of 2025 Nominee (patch.com) — Long Beach residents are celebrating LSL Fitness as a Best of 2025 nominee for the way owners Leo and Lina keep clients moving, motivated and learning about nutrition. A longtime client praises their personalized workouts, family-style atmosphere and the gym’s role in helping older adults maintain strength and mobility. Locals are also invited to nominate their own Long Beach favorites for recognition.
   

2. At long last, Long Beach Airport moves rental car services into its terminal (lbpost.com) — Long Beach Airport has finally moved its rental car counters from long-used trailers into the restored historic terminal, putting them just steps from the concourse exit. The upgrade is part of about $125 million in recent modernizations, with more construction planned through 2027 as the airport prepares for record passenger volumes and the 2028 L.A. Olympics.
   

3. New art installation program to bring life to Long Beach's vacant storefronts (presstelegram.com) — Long Beach is rolling out a new “Vacancy to Vibrancy” program that offers free vinyl art wraps for long-vacant storefronts to boost curb appeal and attract tenants. Backed by $25,000 in city funding and run with the Arts Council for Long Beach, the effort connects local artists with property owners to deter vandalism, support small business corridors, and brighten neighborhood streets.
   

4. NTSB: Faulty lashings led to Genius Star XI battery cargo fires (marinelog.com) — A cargo ship bound for Long Beach experienced two costly fires after lithium-ion battery units shifted in heavy seas, prompting an NTSB investigation. Federal investigators say faulty lashings let dozens of large battery units move, deform, and overheat, causing $3.8 million in damage and leading to new warnings on how such cargo should be secured at sea.
   

5. California Map Shows Cities That Could Go Underwater if Sea Levels Rise (newsweek.com) — Long Beach is among several California coastal cities that a NOAA projection shows could be partially underwater if sea levels rise by 10 feet, putting neighborhoods and infrastructure at risk. Experts say even smaller rises are already disrupting coastal communities and urge long-term investments in flood defenses, stormwater systems, and shoreline protections to keep places like Long Beach livable.
