80-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed In Crash With SUV In Long Beach

An 80-year-old man died in a hospital after he was sideswiped by an SUV while bicycling in Long Beach, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — An 80-year-old man died in the hospital Tuesday after he was hit by a car while biking in Long Beach.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to the crash near Atlantic Avenue and Pleasant Street on Monday. When officers arrived, they saw paramedics treating the victim, who was identified as Long Beach resident Enrique Barajas.

According to detectives, Barajas was biking northbound on Atlantic Avenue and was merging from the bike lane into a car lane.

"A white SUV, traveling northbound in the number two lane, sideswiped the bicyclist and continued northbound without stopping," LBPD said in a statement.

Following the crash, paramedics took Barajas to a hospital in critical condition. Barajas died in the hospital due to his injuries on Tuesday, police said.
