Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. There was an explosion followed by a fire in downtown LB on Saturday. It happened on the third floor of an Alamitos Avenue apartment building. It didn’t take the FD long to extinguish the fire. At this point, there’s no word on what caused the explosion or fire. (LB Post)
  2. The LBFD has had a busy schedule. Early Sunday morning, they responded to a single-vehicle crash. Happening on the transition portion from the northbound 710 and the westbound 91, the female driver hit a tree. The FD used the “jaws of life” to remove her from the vehicle. (@LBFD)
  3. Last week, the LBPD was pretty busy, too. In addition to catching the baddies, the PD hosted its annual Shop with a Cop event. Officers worked with selected Webster Elementary students who received breakfast and a shopping spree. They got school supplies (of course) but also clothes and toys. (Long Beach Police Department)
  4. Besides that, there was the weekend’s Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) walk, which is close to officers’ hearts. This year, the walkers remembered the 16-year-old Millikan student who was killed by a suspected drunk driver in early September. The PD was on hand for this event. (LBPD)
  5. What were this year’s takeaways from ComplexCon? Forget the clothes, it’s what you wear on the feet that matters! For the uninitiated, there were sneakers by Prada. Attendees wore Yeezy shoes and Nike SB Dunks. (TheHiLo)
