Annual Scenic Hike Along Long Beach's Historic Neighborhood Returns Next Week
The event brings together hundreds of hikers each year, and celebrates Long Beach's urban landscape, according to city officials.

LONG BEACH, CA — An annual hike that highlights one of Long Beach's urban areas will return next week for its seventh year, according to city officials.
The Ranchos Walk is a free event, described by city officials as a "unique hike experience" that takes participants through a scenic route that connects the highest points across Long Beach and Signal Hill. The event this year is set for Saturday, Sept. 20.
Hundreds of people take part in the event each year, according to city officials. Last year, almost 600 people walked the route, city officials said.

“The Ranchos Walk brings us together to tour our wonderful city and reminds us how much there is to discover, even in our own backyards,” Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr said in a statement last month. “This fun and educational adventure showcases beautiful local vistas and is a testament to our walkable infrastructure that allows participants to navigate miles of streets safely.”
The main hike is 9.4 miles long, but there will also be shorter options including a 3.5 mile and a 6 mile walk, according to city officials.

Organizers will focus one ducating wakers this year on the enviromental and social benefits of street trees, while also pointing out some of the notable species along the route, according to city officials.
But the ultimate goals of the event is to provide "fun and safe ways" for wakers to explore the city's neighborhood, vista points and historic landmarks, city officials said.
The hike will end at Rancho Los Cerritos, where people can then take part in an afternoon of music, games and activities, city officials said There will also be limited-edition pins for people who complete the hike and other giveaways, they added.
“We are proud to welcome Ranchos Walk participants again this year as they journey through District 4,” Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw said. “I hope everyone enjoys this wonderful opportunity to come together, get outside and explore some of our most iconic and historical local landmarks.”
