📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
1) Once again, the PD had a busy weekend. On Saturday morning, officers arrested a male juvenile in the 900 block of Via Carmelitos after locating a stolen vehicle and finding a firearm. After lunch, they went to 10th Street and Obispo Avenue, conducted a traffic stop, and arrested an 18 and a 19-year-old after finding “a ghost gun and high-capacity drum magazine.” Saturday evening, a man stabbed a woman in the 700 block of East Anaheim Street. On Sunday in the early morning hours, officers arrested a 34-year-old man who reportedly shot at people in another car right around 20th Street and Pacific Avenue. (LBPD)
2) A man was killed in a stabbing on Monday morning. Another man is under arrest. The suspect reportedly committed a “string of stabbings” that began around Anaheim Street and ended on the Alamitos Beach bike path. He targeted people out before dawn and was seen “running after a man and a dog near 5th Place.” The suspect reportedly said he was “going to kill everyone there.” (Long Beach Post)
3) The LBPD booked a 20-year-old man Sunday morning just before 7 a.m. on “one count of DUI, one count of driving without a license and one count of driving without registration.” He had crashed into the Red Car Greenbelt sign near 4th Street and Park Avenue. (Long Beach Post)
4) The Long Beach State women’s soccer team played an excellent game last Sunday. “The Beach scored three goals in the 10-minute span of the first half on its way to a 4-1 win over Cal State Northridge.” Not surprisingly, the team is the leader of the Big West Conference, but Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton are nipping at their heels. (The562.org)
5) If you're a Burning Man Festival aficionado, or just someone curious to see what it’s all about, check out the Decompression Festival on Saturday. This one isn’t in the Black Rock Desert, but at the Scottish Rite Event Center. The event's hallmark is “experimental artwork” followed by “musical performances.” Come on over between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. and stay until 2 a.m. for the 21-and-over after-party. (Press-Telegram)
