Boy, 12, Fatally Struck by Drunken Driver In Winnetka Crash
The boy was attempting to cross the street when he was hit by a drunken driver, police said.
WINNETKA, CA — A 12-year-old boy with autism was fatally struck by a drunken driver while trying to cross the street early Monday morning, according to police.
The crash occurred at 2:49 a.m. Monday at Saticoy Street and Winnetka Avenue. The boy — later identified by the county medical examiner's office as Louis Powell Jr. — was attempting to cross a street outside of a crosswalk when he was struck, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Louis was walking alone when he was struck, ABC 7 reported. The station reported the boy had autism.

A woman who identified herself as the boy's mother to NBC Los Angeles said he had been missing and she was looking for him.
The driver, described only as a woman in her 20s, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police.
