📢 Fireworks Poll Results
Fireworks are illegal in Long Beach. If the police are called, you may have to pay as much as $20,000 in response costs plus citation fines of $1,000. We asked how you felt about that. You responded. 14.4% don’t want fireworks, 74.6% want “safe and sane fireworks,” and 0.5% don’t care one way or the other while another 10.5% want to buy what they choose.

Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

  1. County of L.A. Fourth District Supervisor Janice Hahn announced Thursday that the Long Beach will be sharing in a $30 million funding allowance for infrastructure. In particular, the City will receive “$13,668,000 for the city’s Artesia ‘Great Streets’ project (total project cost: $35.2 million).” (Janice Hahn)
  2. On Friday, the LA County registrar dropped the fifth update on votes counted since the primary. Planning to certify the election by Friday, there may be one more update on Tuesday. At this point, there aren’t any big changes from the last time we talked about the races. In council district one (CD1) Mary Zendejas is at 50.26%, which means she might avoid a runoff against Mariela Salgado. In CD3, Kristina Duggan may face Kailee Caruso in a runoff. (Press-Telegram)
  3. Scofflaws are going to scoff, and you have already noticed that there are fireworks being lit in Long Beach. However, you have options. On Friday, City Prosecutor Doug Haubert suggests calling the PD’s non-emergency line at 562-435-6711 to report fireworks. You can also upload photos to the Go Long Beach app. It records the time, date and location. In the meantime, get your pets chipped if they aren’t (free at Bixby Animal Clinic), bring them inside before dark, close the windows, turn up the TV or radio and have some calming treats on hand. Talk to the friendly folks at Pet Supplies Plus (562-800-6975) to get advice. (LB Post)
  4. Speaking of Friday, the city released its annual list of closures for Independence Day. Examples of what is NOT closed include all City parks, lifeguard stations and trash collection. Examples of what IS closed include BizCare, LB Animal Services, street sweeping and swimming pools. (City of LB)
  5. Mark your calendars! SoFi Stadium is throwing open its gates for tours. See what the players of the Rams and Chargers see! However, even here, you have options. Book a tour on Rally Days, when “tours feature an elevated, team-focused atmosphere that is perfect for the ultimate football fan.” Conversely, get 20 of your closest friends together for a Tour & Dine experience. These tours run from July 1 to September 30. (SoFi Stadium)
