Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. A man assaulted a 12-year-old boy on the 61 bus. It happened Sunday afternoon while the bus was near Atlantic Avenue and Carson Street. It is noteworthy that nobody on the bus stepped in to help the child. This includes the driver. "I don't care what kid that is. Someone has to intervene, and I'm upset with the community right now," the boy’s father said. (ABC 7)
  2. There was gunfire in the Zaferia neighborhood on Sunday night. LBPD received a call of shots fired on the 1100 block of Obispo Avenue. They found evidence of the shooting, but no victim. This appears to have been the third shots-fired call with no victim present in about 24 hours. (LBReport)
  3. The City Council would like you to stop protesting in front of persons’ homes already. They are considering a law that puts a 300-foot buffer between protesters and residences. They cite anti-vaccine protesters who went to L.A. Council President Nury Martinez’ home and “allegedly shouted obscenities into her daughter’s bedroom.” (LB Post)
  4. Terrasage Home is the latest plant shop that is continuing a successful run even as the pandemic wanes. What began as a hobby for many turned out to be a passion for the owner of Terrasage Home. From there, it turned into a pop-up business. Now, she caters to first-time plant lovers who need a little help to overcome their fear of all things green and potted. You’ll find her at SteelCraft, 3768 Long Beach Boulevard, near the corner of LB Blvd. and East Bixby Road. She opens Thursday through Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. (TheHiLo)
  5. Get out there and vote! Although Election Day is not until the 14th, you can drop off your ballot at the Carmelitos Community Center, CSULB Walter Pyramid, El Dorado Park West, and MOLAA. (@LongBeachMayor)
