📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

1) Update on the Atlantic Avenue stabbing: Yesterday, we talked about the early-morning stabbings that left a woman in her 60s dead on Monday. The LBPD arrested a 21-year-old homeless man as a suspect in the stabbings. He has “been booked into jail to await charges for murder and is being held on $2 million bail.” (KTLA)

2) Did you miss it? The Flavo Juice Bar opened at 700 Pine Avenue on Saturday. Mayor Robert Garcia was on hand to take pictures, assist with the ribbon cutting and remark on the “refreshing drinks and tasty paninis.” This business is the home of the “original flavonoid drink!” (Long Beach Mayor)

3) The Belmont Shore Chalk Art Contest on Saturday was a great success! Around 30 artists lined the sidewalks on 2nd Street to compete with drawings. Torrance resident Shuji Nishimura presented the best-in-show entry, featuring an image of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The second place went to Alejandro Reyes from Norwalk; he did a stunning replica of the Mona Lisa. Long Beach was represented by David Pohn, who won the prize by drawing Rihanna. (Press-Telegram)

4) Long Beach City College’s Vikings played well on Saturday. While they carved out a lead in their football match against Ventura College’s Pirates, the visiting team did not make life too easy on them. That said, the Vikings won 33-26, and audiences could not help but notice running back Jonathan Watson, who had what critics call “a career night on the ground, rushing the ball an impressive 34 times for 241 yards and a lifetime-best 4 touchdowns.” (The562.org)

5) The Luke Tatsu Johnson Foundation, named after late Wilson HS student Luke Johnson, is giving the community another chance to help with its fundraising efforts. "Luke-toberfest" offers silent auctions and similar events. The big get-together is on October 28 at the Recreation Park Golf Course for a tournament and banquet. Play 18 holes and enjoy a tasty buffet dinner. Festivities start at 1 p.m. (Team Tatsu)
