😋 Fair Food Poll!
Fair food is the ultimate cheat meal. Although we all know it’s unhealthy, everyone has a guilty pleasure. Which is your favorite? So far, 50% admit to loving funnel cake, 16.7% wrote in cheesecake, 8.3% added cotton candy, 8.3% added tri-tip sandwiches au jus, 8.3% opted for candy apples, and the last 8.3% went for fried cheese curds.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. A Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officer shot and wounded a man Sunday evening in the 5200 block of Atlantic Avenue. The officer saw the man stabbing another and intervened. “During the stabbing, the officer gave commands for the suspect to drop the knife, the suspect refused, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.” (Patch, LBPD)
  2. Late last month, the Los Angeles County Probation Department did a compliance check at a home in the 1100 block of Jackson Street. Unfortunately for the 41-year-old probationer, things weren’t going to be okay. “Officers discovered an un-serialized firearm, illegal firearm paraphernalia, and several rounds of ammunition.” He’s back in custody. (LBPD)
  3. How’d the DUI checkpoint go on Friday? The PD set up “in the area of Artesia Boulevard east of Cherry Avenue” and screened about a third of vehicles passing through. Officers cited 11 drivers who didn’t have a valid license or had theirs revoked. One driver was put under arrest for suspicion of DUI. (Long Beach Post)
  4. Poly High School has an outdoor sensory space for students in the special education program. It opened in 2021 and encourages learners to “develop and engage their senses.” Last week, students and staff collaborated to build a barefoot sensory pathway. A shoutout to teacher Indira Jimenez, who enlisted the help of numerous Jackrabbits, and the students who’re cutting their lunches short to make it happen! (Long Beach Unified School District)
  5. Bar Envie at 4000 East Anaheim Street is making a go of the space that stymied The Red Leprechaun and Tennessee Jack's. Opened early in February, the restaurant’s name is already on everyone’s lips for its New Orleans food that includes fried bologna sandwiches, frog legs, grits, and fries with an authentic mornay sauce. Yum! (LongBeachIze)
