📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. On Sunday morning, just before 4 a.m., the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) sent officers to the “500 block of Queensway Drive regarding a shots call.” A man with a gunshot wound explained that he was walking along “when he threw a brick at a parked RV, breaking a window. A male adult occupant was inside the RV and subsequently discharged a firearm towards the broken window, striking the victim.” Officers detained the RV’s occupant. (LBPD)
  2. Who shot a man Tuesday in the early morning hours near Delta Avenue and Wardlow Road? The good news is that the wound was sufficiently superficial for the victim to drive himself to the hospital. On the downside, “the victim said he was walking in the area when he heard gunshots and was hit by gunfire,” but police officers couldn’t find the crime scene. (Patch)
  3. On Thursday, the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) will host a Black Community Feedback Session at the Houghton Park Community Center. It's an integral part of the “LBUSD’s strategic planning initiative.” Dinner will be served. (LBUSD)
  4. In 2020, the Sizzler at 15 West Del Amo Boulevard shut its doors for good. On January 5, after a complete makeover, the restaurant reopened as Bebe’s Diner. Look forward to “traditional Southern breakfast dishes like pancakes, eggs and ham and grits, alongside Mexican favorites such as huevos rancheros smothered with chili con carne.” And, if you get that classic diner vibe when you enter, you’re not alone. (The HiLo)
  5. LB/OC Women Rising is holding a march and rally at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Victory Park on Ocean Boulevard. “We sent a clear message as voters showed up at the polls to soundly reject Trumpism and MAGA Republicans,” a spokesperson said. Expect to hear from “attorney Gloria Allred, Mayor Rex Richardson, Vice Mayor Cindy Allen, state Assemblymember Josh Lowenthal, longtime activist Zoe Nicholson, Carmen Flores, Aailyah Ann Daniels and several other officials.” (Press-Telegram/paywall)
