  1. The 2021 blessing of the animals is on! Scheduled for this Sunday, October 3, at 5:45 p.m., you can bring your companion animals to 1 Granada Avenue. There will be five faith leaders on hand, which turns this event into “One of the World's Largest Interfaith Pet Blessings.” If your pet has crossed the rainbow bridge, bring a collar or photo to have a benediction spoken. The inimitable Justin Rudd is the founder of the event. (Haute Dogs)
  2. Mayor Robert Garcia has commented on the Millikan shooting. He notes that “the city is heartbroken over the horrific and tragic shooting.” He also noted that the city is working with the L.A. County DA to investigate. (@LongBeachMayor)
  3. Dismayed by the slowness of city employees to receive their COVID-19 vaccines, when compared to the public, officials are upping the ante. These employees may no longer receive weekly COVID testing as a substitute for vaccinations. Moreover, employees may no longer self-attest but must provide proof of vaccinations. A deadline is in the works. (LB Post)
  4. The Long Beach Public Library is bringing the In-N-Out Cover to Cover Club back! “From Oct. 2 to Nov. 13, kids ages 4 - 12 can read five books to earn a certificate for a free cheeseburger, hamburger, or grilled cheese from In-N-Out.” Head to a LB library to sign up. (@LBCityLibrary)
  5. If you always wanted to run a half-marathon, next weekend is your opportunity! It is time once again for the LB Marathon that typically draws more than 10,000 participants and plenty of cheering spectators. Race weekend will feature the Aquarium of the Pacific 5K, 13.1-mile Half Marathon and a 20-mile Bike Tour fun ride. (Studio LBP)
