Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
- Update: Remember Mark Steven Domingo, 28, of Reseda who intended to bomb a LB Bluff Park rally in April 2019? A federal jury convicted him Thursday of “providing material support to terrorism and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.” Sentencing is scheduled for November 1. The statutory maximum sentence is life in federal prison. (Dept. of Justice)
- The latest LB shooting put police officers in the crosshairs of a gunman. The PD says that early Thursday morning, there were reports of gunfire in the 1200 block of East 4th Street (near Red Room Cocktails). The suspect then shot at officers. SWAT rolled, and the suspect was arrested. (CBS, LB Post)
- The modernization for Jordan HS moves to the next phase. Mayor Robert Garcia noted that it is the first project that is part of the LBUSD workforce development agreement, which supports local jobs. (@LongBeachMayor)
- Rumor has it that the Alamitos Beach and Granada Beach concessions stands may have found takers. There is talk that Gaucho Grill and Monty’s Beach have submitted proposals that the City Council will consider on Tuesday. What does this mean for beach goers? Natural juices and lunch sandwiches with a dog agility course as well as Argentine steaks. (LB Post)
- The Descendants have a long LB history. As punk pioneers, they are said to have influenced Green Day and Blink-182. They formed back in 1977 in Manhattan Beach. They practiced in a garage on 9th Avenue and Walnut. Now, some 40 years later, the band will release “9th and Walnut.” (CA News Times)
