Good morning, people of Long Beach; today is International Women’s Day! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Long Beach Daily.
Did an alleged hit-and-run driver cause the death of two people after drinking at the bar? Also, a dumpster fire spread to an apartment. Finally, you can have coffee with a cop on Wednesday morning!

Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:
- The Bottoms Up Sports Bar at 9080 Artesia Boulevard is now under the microscope. We learned Sunday that the CA Dept of Alcoholic Beverage Control will launch an investigation after a supposed patron allegedly caused the deaths of two people after leaving the establishment. Neighbors say that “they're overserving their clients all the time at 3 and 4 in the morning at the bar when the bar should be closed at 2 a.m.” (Fox 11)
- On Sunday afternoon, there was a dumpster fire in the 1000 block of Lewis Avenue. The fire then spread to an apartment. It caused five residents and a dog to be displaced. At this time, there is no known cause for the fire. (@LBFD)
- The LBPD’s Metro Division is continuing its efforts to reach out to the community and spend some time just talking. If you would like to have a “casual conversation about your community, ask questions, and voice your concerns,” head over to Starbucks at 281 East Willow Street on Wednesday. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., officers will work hard “to break down barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve by removing agendas.” (@LBPD)
- Saturday, Lincoln Elementary at 1175 East 11th Street will host a “Spring into Health” event. “There will be FREE resources, school supplies, a vaccine clinic, & more!” The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (@MoveLBForward)
- Belmont Shore got a new coffee shop, y’all! Stereoscope Coffee opened its fourth location, this one at 4925 Second Street. The venue quietly opened on February 22, and so far all that gives it away is a “knee-high A-frame sign outside its door.” If you know anything about the brand, you know this place will soon be hopping, so, go now!
