Boy Burned in Long Beach Apartment Fire

An 11-year-old boy was in critical but stable condition Saturday after suffering second-degree burns and inhalation injuries in an apartment fire in Long Beach that also left a woman with minor burn injuries, authorities said.
The fire in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue was reported just before 9 p.m. Friday, said Long Beach Fire Capt. Jim Arvizu.

The first arriving units encountered moderate smoke and flames coming from a first-floor unit, he said, adding that firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and kept it from spreading to other apartments, he said.
The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment while the woman was treated at the scene and released, Arvizu said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
