First Things First: Today’s Weather and Allergy Outlook

Sunny Southern California doesn’t disappoint, with June temperatures reaching 70° for the high and 58° for the low. Odds are good it’ll be partly cloudy, in keeping with our typical June Gloom.

Even though it’s grass pollen season, along with olives and nettles, levels of pollen in the air are slightly elevated but still low to medium.

The Five News Headlines That Everyone’s Talking About

1. A half-acre East LB brush fire is a good reminder that the State is in fire season as well as in a drought. The blaze burned vegetation at 2nd Street and Studebaker Road. (LB Post)
2. LB Mayor Robert Garcia promises “swift action” to restore the Queen Mary. The City regained the property along with the surrounding 40 acres that require upkeep. (NBC L.A.)
3. Alicia Casey and Tatiana Navarrette received the Mark Bixby Leadership Award. Organizers cited "their achievements and their desire to improve the community." Congratulations! (LB Press Telegram)
4. The family of Brian Alvarado is featured in the documentary, “Sky Blossom: Diaries of the Next Greatest Generation.” It received the Christopher Award and San Diego GI Film Festival’s Founders Award. It is in the running for the 2021 Academy Awards. (PT/The Grunion People)
