Burglary Suspect Barricaded Inside Long Beach Home Eludes Police

A person watching a home surveillance system remotely called to report a burglary in progress, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA -- A house near Houghton Park was surrounded by SWAT on Friday afternoon after the resident, who was monitoring a home surveillance system, called to report a burglary in progress, but a SWAT team later found the suspect was gone.

Officers were dispatched to the home around 12:05 p.m. in the 6200 block of California Avenue, Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson said.

"Based on information provided by the victim and our quick response, officers believe the suspect is still inside the residence," Johnson told Patch.

Police have surrounded the house and SWAT was activated after the suspect failed to respond to calls to surrender, he said.

By 6 p.m., a SWAT team had entered the residence and did not find the him inside, Johnson said.
