1) A shoutout to Raymon Ornelas, the winner of the 38th LB Marathon and a Cal State Long Beach graduate! He was among the 15,000 runners who took to the streets last weekend and the first person to cross the finish line. The 22-year-old “was the first male marathoner to finish the full 26.2-mile course, while his college roommate, Enrique Villa, 24, also from Long Beach, came in second.” It was his first full marathon — ever. On the women’s side, 30-year-old Margaux Curcuru from L.A. crossed the finish line first. (Press-Telegram)
2) There were three burglaries Saturday evening. The spree began at 8:20 p.m. at the 5500 block of El Jardin Street, where a caller “saw three male suspects in her backyard” who subsequently fled. At 9:41 p.m., officers came to the 5600 block of El Parque Street, where “suspects smashed a sliding door, entered the home, and stole jewelry.” Finally, there was another burglary at 9:52 p.m. in the 4200 block of Country Club Drive, where “suspects had pried a door open, entered the home, and stole jewelry.” (LBPD)
3) Metra Electronics bought the 38,233-square-foot industrial venue at 3221 East 59th Street. The parcel is called a distribution facility constructed in 1970 and “situated in a prime location adjacent to well-established transportation infrastructure.” The Monday report referred to the transaction as a sale-leaseback. (L.A. Business Journal)
4) Right now, Southern California Edison owns a vacant five-story building at 1st Street and Elm Avenue. We learned on Monday that the City is considering buying it for $21 million. It would then become “part of a $44.4 million project that would create a new police crime lab, senior center and office space for city employees.” In the past, the City was considering it as a possible headquarters for the Angels — if they had moved to LB. (Long Beach Post)
5) When Musical Theatre West presents Damn Yankees on Saturday at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, you have an opportunity to see actors “with significant experience on Broadway.” Insiders will be familiar with Lesli Margherita, Jake Skowron, Teri Bibb, and Norman Large. Performances will run on weekends until October 30. (Press-Telegram)
