🌱 Car Collides With Taco Surf + Tiny Homes For The Homeless?

A driver collided with a restaurant in Seal Beach. Also, the city is thinking about investing in tiny homes. Finally, the Kleefeld is (soft) opening Saturday!

Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:

1. At around 1:12 a.m. Sunday, a car with three men inside crashed into the Taco Surf at 16281 PCH. The driver, a 22-year-old Norwalk resident, “was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.” This isn’t the first time that someone crashed into the restaurant. On March 10, “a driver spun out of control on a wet road and crashed into the front wall,” which led to a partial closure of the venue for nine months. (LB Post)
2. Should the city invest in tiny shelters for those experiencing homelessness? The City Council will discuss the option today. The tiny home idea is not new. In L.A., the Salvation Army operates a “75-unit tiny home village in Wilmington.” Torrance will build 40 tiny homes in the spring. However, “funding for the tiny home shelters in Long Beach hasn’t yet been identified,” although the city is hoping to benefit from Governor Gavin Newsom’s budget proposal that “allocated $1.5 billion over two years to build tiny homes.” (Press-Telegram)
3. The Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum’s expanded arts complex opens Saturday. On that day, you may visit the facility between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Art lovers know that this venue is located in the Horn Center Building on LB’s California State University campus. In the main gallery, you find work by Linda Besemer, while there is a Rita Letendre collection in the mini gallery. (CSULB, 2)
4. Nancy Luong is a LB author who has tackled the distance many families are now experiencing. She published a “guided journal, meant to help bond people with parental figures by asking meaningful questions, sparking conversation and creating life-changing bonds.” We learned Sunday that Luong got the idea after experiencing a difficult time having deeper conversations with her own parents. Luong says users of her journal might run into parents asking, "Huh? Since when did you want to know about my life?" But once you do that, they will not stop talking. (The HiLo)
5. As of Monday morning, the program and events at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium are “certified as sensory inclusive.” It starts at the entrance. “Guests can check out sensory bags equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and a weighted lap pad.” There are specific areas for visitors in need of a quieter environment. This inclusive facility is located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro. (Random Lengths News)
