Car Slams Into, Kills Pedestrian On Sidewalk In Long Beach
The force of a car crash near Long Beach City College sent one car slamming into a man on the sidewalk and killed him Monday night.

LONG BEACH, CA — The force of a car crash near Long Beach City College sent one car slamming into a man sitting on a bus bench and killed him Monday night, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The crash happened at about 5:50 p.m. at Pacific Coast Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue when two cars crashed in the intersection. Witnesses told the Long Beach Post the impact of the crash caused one car to split in half as it slammed into a telephone pole.
According to LBPD, a 20-year-old man was speeding down eastbound Pacific Coast Highway when it crashed into the car of a 50-year-old woman who was making a left turn onto Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

The violent crash sent the speeding car flying toward the sidewalk, where a man sat on a bus bench. The pedestrian was determined dead at the scene, LBPD said.
The 20-year-old was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries due to the crash, but the woman in the other car refused medical treatment at the scene, authorities said.

LBPD said speed is being as a factor in the collision, but impaired and distracted driving don't appear to be part of the cause.
