🎄 The Worst Christmas Songs?
Christmas is around the corner. Songs of the season are everywhere. However, some tunes are better than others. Last year, Rolling Stone compiled a list of the worst Christmas songs of all time. Which song is the one that is the worst in your book? Hand-picked choices are:

  • The Jackson 5, ‘I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’
  • NewSong, ‘The Christmas Shoes’
  • The Pussycat Dolls, ‘Santa Baby’
  • Seth MacFarlane and Sara Bareilles, ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’
  • Band Aid, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’

📰 Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

1) On Sunday, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) investigated an armed carjacking in the 200 block of Shoreline Drive. A woman reported a little after 2:15 a.m. that she was “inside of her vehicle when a male adult suspect pointed a handgun at her and ordered her out of her vehicle.” The suspect then headed to the 710. (LBPD)

2) A Sunday morning house fire near 11th Street and Loma Avenue “damaged multiple rooms and the attic, but it was knocked down in five minutes,” a spokesperson for the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) said. Neighbors said that the home had been vacant for a few months, and there had been problems, causing them to call “police multiple times over drug use and small fires in the backyard.” (Long Beach Post)

3) Haven Dispensaries has cultivated a reputation of being community-minded. A case in point is today’s (Tuesday’s) Turkey Giveaway. Company volunteers will be at Haven’s 1248 Long Beach Boulevard location from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to give out more than 200 turkeys." (PR Newswire)

4) The Long Beach Poly girls’ cross-country team won the coveted CIF State qualification! The team participated in Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 1 Cross Country Finals at Mt. SAC, after arriving as an outlier. “One mile into the three-mile race, the Jackrabbits were dead last out of 16 teams in the field,” and far removed from placing among the first seven teams. Then – everything changed, and they moved up “to key a fifth-place finish and a CIF State qualification.” Congratulations! (The562.org)

5) It’s Thanksgiving week, and there are facility closures for this Thursday as well as Thursday and Friday. The city announced on Thursday that the El Dorado Nature Center, marina offices, and park facilities will be open on Friday but closed on Thursday. Thursday and Friday closures include the libraries, homeless services outreach, street sweeping, and city pools. Trash pickup is not affected by the holiday. (City of Long Beach)
