Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:

  1. On Tuesday, at around 5:52 a.m., the storage facility on the 1000 block of West Carson Street caught fire. Thirty fire units fought the two-alarm blaze. The “West Long Beach storage facility sustained extensive damage,” including a collapsed second floor in some areas. (LB Post)
  2. A shoutout to the LBPD! On Tuesday morning, at around 1:18 a.m., officers responded to a commercial burglary in the 200 block of East Broadway and believed the suspects to be a female and two males. Then, at 2 a.m., there was another commercial burglary in the 700 block of East 1st Street. This time, they caught the suspects, who are a 19-year-old female, a 19-year-old male, and a 35-year-old male; they’re all L.A. residents. (LBPD)
  3. Have you ever wondered what goes on inside a (legal) cannabis testing lab? Some LBCC students recently toured BelCosta Labs at 1131 East South Street. We learned on Wednesday that the facility establishes “the quality and provenance of cannabis goods.” Technicians there run “THC potency tests, residual pesticides testing, and homogeneity tests for edible products.” By the way, you’re welcome to schedule your own tour at this North Long Beach facility! (Viking News)
  4. Everytable, the company that sells grab-and-go meals, is expanding. It already operates locations at 4406 Atlantic Avenue and 1001 E. PCH. The next location will open up in East Long Beach in November. This is the company that makes “healthy food more accessible and affordable to underserved communities. To do this, Everytable chooses locations in both high and low-income areas and prices its meals based on the neighborhood.” (The HiLo)
  5. We’re getting a Popcorn World, y’all! Its tentative opening date is June 4 at 3916 Atlantic Avenue. However, the operator is planning to be visible at Bixby Knolls’ First Fridays to hand out samples. This isn’t your typical popcorn store. There’ll be about 250 flavors that might include key lime pie, orange dreamsicle and dill pickle. (The HiLo)
