Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:
- Friday night, the LBPD North Division attempted a traffic stop. When the driver failed to yield, the helicopter got involved, and the vehicle and driver were located. In the process of the investigation, “officers located a replica firearm in the vehicle, as well as catalytic converters and a saw.” (Long Beach Police Department)
- A boy was stabbed at a bus stop near Wilson HS Friday evening around 5:30 p.m. Police responded to the 4400 block of East 10th Street (off Ximeno) where a “man approached him and stabbed him.” The police wouldn’t disclose if the boy or man is affiliated with Wilson HS. (LB Post)
- A Carson couple bought a house in June and still hasn’t been able to move in. We learned Friday that the tenant who is currently occupying the property “doesn’t have to leave because the Board of Supervisors voted in January to extend most pandemic eviction protections through the end of the year.” The unwilling landlord filed for reimbursement through the Housing Key program in September, but “so far he’s not seen a dime.” (CBS)
- The Los Altos Neighborhood Library has found a creative way to encourage patrons to visit during the month of February. The friendly folks there encourage you to visit every Friday during this month to have a “blind date with a book.” Watch the video and see for yourself! (Long Beach Public Library)
- Bixby Knolls has a new restaurant! It opened on January 28 at 3819 Atlantic Avenue. Sushi Nikkei serves an intriguing mix of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. Dishes include tiraditos, conchas brasa, and lomo saltado. (LA Eater)
