Morning, Long Beach! Here's everything you need to know to get this Monday started off right.
It’s beginning to look like the LB Harbor fireworks over Independence Day did more harm than good. Chick rescue attempts are expanding. An (allegedly) alcohol-fueled road rage incident had deadly consequences. Finally, the City is pulling out all the stops when it comes to vaccinating residents before the school year kicks off.

- Update: The Aquarium of the Pacific is joining the International Bird Rescue in its efforts to help elegant tern chicks falling into the water. Other organizations helping are the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, as well as the Oiled Wildlife Care Network. You may remember that fireworks and boaters in the LB Harbor might have contributed to the crisis. (The Log)
- A Saturday morning road rage incident killed a pregnant woman and her unborn baby at LB Blvd. and 52nd Street. It endangered a 10-year-old boy who was a passenger. Alcohol allegedly was a factor. (LBReport)
- Any LBCC fall semester student getting the COVID-19 shot before August 30, is eligible for a $300 voucher at the school's B&N bookstore. People heading to mobile clinics for their shots can get a free scoop of Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream. (NBC)
- Paws Street Outreach focuses its attention on assisting people experiencing homelessness with caring for their pets. Recognizing that these are sometimes the only family for someone, outreach efforts may involve spay/neuter procedures at Fix Long Beach or other pet treatments. (The HiLo)
- The LB School Nurse Association honored the Department of Health and Human Services with its Friends of School Nurses Award for its community partnership. (LBHealthDept)
