First, today's weather:

Afternoon rain, some heavy. High: 66 Low: 52.

Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. Shipping Container Update: Remember when we talked about the Wilmington neighbors who were frustrated by seeing shipping containers line their streets? Well, the City has opted to temporarily relax the standards that are in place. While typically trucking yards can only stack containers two high, they can now go four high. With the go-ahead of the FD, they can even go five high. (CBS)
  2. Shout-out to LBPD officers Banuelos and Phillips! These Metro Division heroes responded to a call involving a suicidal person. Not only did they climb up scaffolding to meet the person where they were, but they were able to talk them out of harming themselves. (LBPD)
  3. The City wants your input on what to do with Lincoln Park. Councilmember Cindy Allen intends to reopen the park in 2022. As a finishing touch to the new Civic Center Complex, there are plenty of options such as an outdoor reading room, a small skate park, or a dog park. Weigh in by participating in the virtual meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. (City of LB)
  4. There was a shooting on the 200 block of Golden Shore. Patrol officers heard gunfire, investigated, and found casings and strike marks. In the process of the investigation, the LBPD pulled over a vehicle near the Catalina Express terminal. Its five occupants were briefly arrested, but then let go. (LB Post)
  5. Why is the City taking “$15,183,922 … from CA state taxpayer Tidelands funds?” The money will pay for four LB shoreline concession stands. One of them, the Alamitos Beach Concessions, was supposed to open in 2020. However, recently, we learned that the contractor “failed to complete construction as specified.” (LBReport)
