Counterfeit Cargo Bust + Free School Uniforms + Body Cam Video

Welcome to the Long Beach Daily! This is your go-to for everything going on in Long Beach.

(Patch Media)

Morning, Long Beach! Let's get you started this Saturday with everything you need to know going on today in Long Beach.

If you’re one of the folks who buy (or sell) “designer” shoes and purses from the back of a truck, Customs has some bad news for you. Also, LBUSD promises to ease kids back into a routine. Finally, the PD released a body cam video, if you feel inclined to watch it.

First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 83 Low: 66.

Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Counterfeiters tried to ship fake Gucci, Dior, Prada, Yeezy, and Air Jordans through the port of LB. U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted the cargo shipments, making it harder for “illegitimate websites” and “underground outlets” to peddle their wares. (NBC)
  2. The LBUSD’s Superintendent Jill Baker is clear in stating that the district can “manage” COVID-19 spread, but not eliminate it. She noted that teachers are encouraged to head outside with students, parents who need uniforms should check with schools, which have a “backstock,” and an indoor mask policy is in place. (LB Post)
  3. The LBPD released body cam video from the shooting on August 8, which took place in the 1700 block of Harbor Avenue. Watch it at your own risk. (LB Local News)
  4. Freight ships continue to be in a holding pattern. Look out from the beach, and you see them anchored just off the coast. Right now, there are about 41 vessels in queue. Insiders point toward the potential of supply chain breaks because of overwhelmed ports and at-capacity overland transportation. (Seatrade Maritime News)
  5. Urban Pacific pioneers the concept of multi-generational housing. Rather than focusing on the luxury apartment market, these developments are typically three-story homes with five bedrooms and multiple bathrooms. The goal is to allow multiple generations of a family to live together and share expenses. Its latest project is a five-unit development at 1491 Atlantic Avenue. (LB Business Journal)
